Not all publicity is good publicity, as many people know, but does Kanye West?

Beginning his career almost 20 years ago now… you’d think he would have learned to quit while he’s ahead, but that has definitely not been the case. From Bill Cosby, to newly emerging controversies with Taylor Swift and his new album “The Life of Pablo” (T.L.O.P.), to his wife Kim Kardashian – and we are only a quarter into 2016!

Here are the top controversies involving Kanye West thus far in 2016:

“BILL COSBY INNOCENT !!!!!!!!!!” was posted by West on his Twitter page on Wednesday, Feb. 9th causing quite the storm. With no explanation to his controversial statement, West upset many colleagues, friends and fans. Cosby was charged in a sexual assault case in Pennsylvania and has been publicly accused of assault by more than 50 women. He is accused of drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand, former Temple University employee, in his home in 2004 and has other cases pending in Massachusetts and California.

Kanye West: Top Controversies of 2016

What led West to make this controversial statement? With his new album T.L.O.P. releasing that following Thursday, Feb. 14th – could it have been a ploy to put the spot light on him and hence his album? Be that as it may, Twitter responses to this post have shown fewer people intend to purchase the album due to his statement, proving not all press is good press!

West’s new album T.L.O.P. was exclusively available the first week through Tidal and his website. The minute it was released, the song “Famous” hit the headlines as he raps, referring to Taylor Swift in a less than flattering light.

Swift and West have had an ongoing feud since 2009 when he jumped on stage and interrupted her acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards. West claims to have had Swift’s permission to drop the line in his new album, but Swift’s PR representative disputed that saying:

“Kanye did not call for approval, but to ask Taylor to release his single ‘Famous’ on her Twitter account. She declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message.”

West however, went to Twitter, as he does with most controversies involving himself, claiming that Swift approved the line.

Most recently, West has been in the spotlight because of his wife Kim Kardashian West who posted a couple nude selfies on her Twitter page. This sparked both positive and negative press as to be expected and prompted West to her defense as he piled on with his own provocative Tweets. Given his own Twitter habits, many doubt his actions were truly chivalrous and more likely part of a collaboration with his wife to keep attention on this attention-starved couple.

So… Kanye West… what will be your next controversial Twitter feud?
